North of Silence Collective Records™
Releasing 2 January 2027, Þar sem Beinavindurinn Talast við Hafið / Where the Bonewind Speaks with the Sea marks a unique milestone for North of Silence Collective. Inspired by Iceland's early settlement period and the courage of those who crossed the North Atlantic during the 9th century, the single explores endurance, memory and the unbreakable bond between sailors, sea and wind.
Featuring ethereal vocals by Eira Vale and a powerful men's choir, the song blends ancient seafaring chant traditions with the atmospheric sound of North of Silence Collective. At its heart lies the legend of the Beinavindurinn — the Bonewind — a cold northern wind said to carry the voices and memories of those who sailed before.
For North of Silence Collective, this release also represents a step beyond familiar territory: a first exploration of a Nordic language and a tribute to the culture, history and landscapes that inspired it.

The story behind the song / Sagan á bak við lagið
🇬🇧 Where the Bonewind Speaks with the Sea
North of Silence Collective
Where the Bonewind Speaks with the Sea began as a creative challenge: stepping beyond familiar territory and writing in a Nordic language for the first time.
While exploring Iceland's early history and settlement era, I became fascinated by the world of the first seafarers who crossed the North Atlantic during the 9th century. Their journeys demanded extraordinary endurance, courage and trust in both ship and crew. The harsh northern seas, unpredictable weather and vast distances shaped lives in ways that are difficult to imagine today.
From that inspiration grew the idea of the Bonewind (Beinavindurinn): a cold northern wind carrying the memories of those who sailed before. In the song, the Bonewind becomes both a force of nature and a symbol of perseverance. It tests the crew, challenges their resolve, and reminds them that every voyage is part of a much larger story.
Musically, the track combines ancient seafaring chant traditions with the atmospheric sound world of North of Silence Collective. Eira Vale's intimate lead vocal is answered by a men's choir that represents the strength and unity of the crew as they press on through the storm.
For me, this song was an opportunity to leave my comfort zone, experiment with a Nordic language, and explore a different cultural landscape while remaining true to the themes that often appear in my work: memory, endurance, silence, and the relationship between human beings and the forces that surround them.
🇮🇸 Þar sem Beinavindurinn Talast við Hafið
North of Silence Collective
Tónlistarlega séð sameinar lagið fornar sjófararlaghefðir við andrúmsloftsríka hljóðheim North of Silence Collective. Persónulegu aðalsöng Eiru Vale svarar karlakór sem táknar styrk og samstöðu áhafnarinnar þegar hún heldur áfram í gegnum storminn.
Fyrir mig var þetta lag tækifæri til að yfirgefa þægindaramma minn, til að prófa norrænt tungumál og kanna annað menningarlegt landslag, á sama tíma og ég hélt tryggð við þemu sem oft koma fram í verkum mínum: minningu, þolgæði, þögn og sambandið milli manna og afla náttúrunnar sem umlykur þá.
